Showcase – Havoc DOW
Borders are being covered at an extraordinary rate here on Unscripted 360! With that said, let me welcome you all to the first China Unscripted 360 Showcase!
Let’s dig right in!
I can’t imagine we’ll be able to cover all the things I’d like to ask so let’s take care of what we can.
Is your Gamertag an ode to the Unreal Tournament series?
I based my Gamertag on the Unreal game engine, and the Havok physics engine, roughly the meaning of it is unbelievable chaos and devastation, which is what I like to cause on the virtual battlefield. I couldn’t think of anything else better that represented my playing style, and me as a character out there on Xbox Live.
Well that’s a good combination then. Describe what a usual gaming session is like in Unreal’s world?
It is as hectic as hell, though not in an unorganized way mind you. I like to have the biggest, and craziest gun battles ever witnessed on the Xbox 360 by mankind. As long as everyone in the lobby at the end of the session is happy and says “yeah I enjoyed that” then I know I’ve done my bit for the community.
What title are you currently putting too many 360 game hours in?
It’s definitely got to be Perfect Dark Zero, which is a very good and very under rated game. I love playing this online especially because of the outrageous weaponry, and the ability to have up to 32 players in a match, it suits my hectic playing style just fine.
PDZ. I have to replay the demo then. Which title would you like to forget that you played?
To be honest I haven’t really played a bad title yet. There are some titles that I didn’t enjoy that much but it is due more to them not being my sort of thing really. I think that Football Manager 2006 was the game I didn’t enjoy the most, simply because there isn’t any action in it for me. Games like that would probably be better if you actually played the match, instead of watching some circles moving around on a screen.
Arcade Wednesdays are upon us. Is your favorite Arcade title due in the Summer of Arcade or do you have another favorite you’re waiting on?
Streetfighter 2: Hyper Fighting, August 2nd 2006. I am a big fan of the Streetfighter series from way back in the day. I still play it in the arcade down at the mall today. I’m looking forward to Galaga as well, that’s a classic too.
I see you’re a part of a clan, Demons of War. Many people have suggested an optional clan blade in the dashboard. How do you feel about this?
I honestly feel this would be a great idea, and a really big help to people like me who run clans online. It would be really good if we didn’t have to rely on game developers to put all the clan support in our games. If it was in the dashboard, it is instant access. I would like to be able to find the clan member I want at the touch of a button, maybe even have a section in there where you can find other clans online to help with organizing matches. It would also be great if we could put our site and forums addresses on there so that people could find our sites making recruitment a lot easier. I and many other clan leaders out there are definitely hoping this will happen.
Do you game for the Achievements or Gamerscore?
Neither, I game for the same reason I have always been gaming, for fun. I don’t feel that Gamerscore is a measure of how good you are, more a measure of how much you can spend on your games. Achievements are a good idea though, as it is the true way to show people that you have done a certain objective within a game. Your mates can no longer say “yeah right I don’t believe you” because it’s there in writing what you have achieved.
Very true. Which future 360 title has you foaming at the mouth for its release?
Most definitely got to be Gears of War. That game looks epic (no pun intended). I can’t wait to get my hands on this game. The graphics look stunning, and the gameplay looks very appealing to me. Oh and it has my favourite weapon, a Chainsaw! Oh and there’s also Mass Effect.
Everyone it seems has Gears of War on their list. You’re obviously one of the few who have picked up the Xbox 360 in the eastern land. What made you do it?
Well first and foremost it is from a company with a good reputation and high standards, Microsoft, and if anyone knows how to build a computer and make sure all the parts work together right for developers to build great games, it’s them! It is most definitely a very powerful console capable of pushing some amazing graphics. After seeing all the great titles on the horizon for the system, and all the great features it has out of the box, it was pretty hard to look back at my Xbox.
Having first hand knowledge of what gamers in China and perhaps even Japan are experiencing…why is there, in your opinion, such a difference in their support versus support in the US and other countries?
Support for the Xbox 360 in China is very poor. I think it is because, like Japan, the Chinese tend to buy a lot of stuff from their own country, mainly because it is cheaper and also because it is very expensive to import from other countries here due to the exchange rates, and economy. Also I don’t feel that the Xbox 360 has been promoted very well here at all and I think that if Microsoft wants to extend their grip on the East Asian market, then they need to rethink their marketing strategy. You can go into nearly any computer or electronics shop here and I guarantee you they will never have heard of an Xbox 360.
Wow. That’s crazy. If you were in control for a day, what would you immediately implement in order to reverse the 360’s fortunes in China/Japan?
I would most definitely improve the advertising, as it is such an unknown product in China. I would also most definitely make sure that there was at least one shop in each city that retailed it, with full knowledge and support from Microsoft. If Microsoft wants it to work here they just have to put the time in to make sure people know about it and where to get it.
Your opinions can only help my friend. One game. One shot. You against Luke Skywalker (the Episode IV Luke). Who wins and what are you playing?
I’d make it Geometry Wars. I won’t beat him, but thanks to his Jedi reflexes at least he would most definitely get the top score for me.
Any last comments to the world?
One day your demons will come back to haunt you. Thanks for having me on Unscripted 360.
Haunt you they will. Glad to have had you on the Showcase Unreal!
