Showcase – Sirharper
This will perhaps be Unscripted 360’s most controversial Showcase ever. U360 wasn’t created to pick and choose only the spiffy angels of the Xbox 360 community. The entire community will be served. Even the ones with the most controversy.
With that said ladies and gentlemen, I introduce our latest Showcase. The man with the 150 year ban himself…
Before U360 allows you to share the history or circumstances surrounding your 150 year ban from the xbox.com community boards, tell us the person who is Sirharper.
Is there some royal history behind your Gamertag?
I wish there were. Really Harper is my dog’s name. It all started many years ago when I helped launch what was once a huge website at the time, FaceTheJury.com. Before MySpace became huge that was the place to be. One of my early profile pictures was that of me and my dog. Being a Dalmatian right around the time Disney remade their classic movie gathered a lot of attention. I think he was more popular than I was. Somebody addressed (us) as Sirharper and the name stuck. I started using it for all my online profiles and have ever since.
How long have you been an X-head and part of the Xbox community?
As far as I recall I bought my first Xbox right about the time Live went into service. I have to have been one of the first paying Live customers.
How often do you find time to relax with your Xbox 360 and game?
I am on most every night after my kids go to bed at 8 (EDT). I stay on until about 11 unless some good UNO battle is raging and I stay longer.
With a name like Sir Harper, there must be some knightly ritual that you go through before gaming?
Well there might be some swordplay involved depending on what mood the wife is in. LOL
Any specific title, Xbox or Xbox 360, that you find yourself playing the most…Arcade titles included?
Unlike the previous Xbox I have not been stuck on any game for very long. I put in my 90 hours of Oblivion early on so that would be the single 360 game I’ve played the longest so far. The game I think would be closest to a recurring use would be UNO. When all else fails that’s what I go for.
What’s your ‘must-have’ title this year that you’ll get no matter what?
I’m not a huge FPS (or SPS in this case) guy but I am really hoping Gears of War does very well. Whatever it takes to get people off that dead and long since played out Halo series. I am also looking forward to Saints Row a bit, less now that we know the next GTA will come out for 360, but still.
And the game you’d most like to erase from your Gamercard so no one knew you played?
Good question I actually had to go to my profile and look. I would love to get that PlayOnline Viewer off it. It happened when I installed that aweful Final Fantasy Demo. Other than that I think Ridge Racer 6 should go.
With the entire buzz going around the community about content price, what’s your stance on content downloads and the price of it?
You’ll never hear me complaining about it actually. Having an MBA with an Economics concentration certainly helps me understand that prices are set on what the free market will bear. So far none of the downloads has been mandatory unless you consider that it’s almost impossible to join a game of GRAW now without the new chapter.
How much have you purchased in the Marketplace and what would you return if you could?
I think to date I have purchased about 5600 points. Most recently I bought a 1600 point card so I could get Frogger and keep the rest for Galaga and Street Figher. I regret Robotron 2084. It’s entirely my fault though and I accept that. My GamerScore was stuck at 9990 for a few days before I finally decided to buy something…anything…to get over that 10000 mark. I don’t regret the Horse Armor. There was one case in Oblivion when Shadowmare, like she tends to do, charged off into the distance to take on a Brown Bear. Before I realized what was happening she was almost done for. I figure the armor made the difference.
The competition is set to debut sometime this year. What do you think the Xbox 360 has to do in order to be the top choice this holiday season?
Pray? Impossible to say actually, I don’t think it’s within MS’s control at all. If Sony and Nintendo are somehow able to ship a decent amount of units (I am not predicting they will but if they do) they will easily outpace sales of 360’s. It will all hinge on the availability of consoles. Just like last year when people couldn’t find a 360 with a search warrant, they will reach for what is on the shelf. In last years case it was the PSP. The 360 was the best thing that could have happened to the PSP. This year if people can’t find a PS3 it will be the best thing that ever happened to 360. If Sony was able to learn from MS’s launch debacle they would not dare launch in the US with less than 2 million in the first month. 2 million units will be more than enough to trump anything the 360 will be able to sell in that same time.
Anything in particular that you would change about the Xbox 360 right now if you could? What is its best feature?
Easy…the lack of an HDMI and high-cap optical drive. I realize that last year when 360 production began HD-DVD was not at all ready to be a viable option, but I assure you that will be a problem later on. That add-on drive looks exactly like the afterthought that it was. Sega Saturn anybody? As for lack of HDMI there was absolutely no excuse for the 360 to have gone out the door without it. That was a major bungle and one we owners will pay the price for. The best feature I think is Marketplace it’s really the only new idea we have. Live existed before and I wish more people realized that even the old Xbox could do 1080i Hi-Def.
Ok. One game. One shot. You against Major Nelson. Who wins and what game are you playing?
Hahaha….you’re kidding right? I think the only game he’d stand even the slightest chance at would be The Outfit. I remember hearing him say he was putting in some good game time. Really it all comes down to who would control the other guys spawn site first. That’s really the only strategy that game has.
Thanks for the inside look Sir Harper. Up next. The controvery surrounding your exile from the Xbox.com community boards…coming to an Unscripted 360 show near you!
